I'm Ok with it .. after watching people , not all , clean n " filet" fish at cleaning stations , there's a lot of waste , head , cheeks, collars and the belly gets tossed  , rather see less fish harvested and wasted

A slot limit would be better.  Or something like:

Limit 2, only one of which may be over 32"

Or something.

Don't give them ideas. Next is a ling cod report card that cost $10 dollars.

Or stagger open and closures within the season something like Oregon or Washington .. anyone know how they run that up there

Oregon is simple.  open year round limit 2 22" minimum.

Washington's regs are complicated as fuck.  Way worse than California.  Good luck deciphering those.

But hey, means some of us will have an easier time of limiting out!

i like turtles! real talk.   i personally dont mind the limit of 1, it changes the game and encourages me to fish harder and smarter.  however,  i think a lot of non-genuine folks will be tempted to "upgrade" their catches.  just sayin'.

At least you said "not all"  :smt012....  As one of those "dumb white guys" I am proud of the fact that I don't waste anything from these beautiful fish.  The head and collars go into the oven or soup pot as soon as I get home and clean everything, and bellies go in the pan.  I know that a lot of people do waste some parts of the fish, and I agree with your point when it comes to that, but I also don't think that filet table waste is what is behind this limit drop.

to me that's an indication of they don't know WTF they're doing.

Absolutely going to happen, unfortunately.  You can't tell me every single person with a legal ling on board is going to toss back the bigger ling they catch afterwards...  Even if somebody is honestly targeting smaller species after catching their 1 ling.  The second biggest ling I ever caught bit a tiny homemade shrimpfly teaser when targeting smaller RF.

@ Tez , I`m a white guy too ( My wife is Chinese, she dont toss nothing  ) LOL... I agree, the cleaning stand probably isn`t an indicator , just me busting balls . I use everything too, it`s the way I was raised .

I agree with chopper upthread.  Most I ever got on was 2 in one day.  Not sure why they even went to 3..but it is an overreaction imo..

I think they should make it the first legal sized catch like abalone was. Even if they go back to 2 fish. This might help a little and keep people from throwing back smaller stresses out or damaged fish.

Most I ever caught in one day was 27. I kept 3 of them which was the limit at the time.

Catch limits should be based upon science, not feelings.

At the end of 2017, I was able to catch lingcod after lingcod at Timber Cove. I remember my last trip of that year I had 9 legal lings plus 5 rockfish in the first hour of fishing. Moo has a video on YouTube called lingfested. I believe he scored 18 lingcod on one trip around that time. Fast forward to end of 2018, the average ling per trip dropped to 2-3 for me.

I've been heading up to Alaska for a decade and a half and have seen their stocks decline thanks to the commercial guys raping the resource. Resurrection Bay and those waters don't have any like it used to.

Only saving grace now is boat captains are seeing a lot of mini-lings being caught close to shore while going after rockfish. Heard that from one of my captain buddies I saw a few weeks ago. Will they make a comeback? Hopefully they will. Oh and the limit up there is one over 36". Fun to catch and release a bunch of those except the captain gets a little pissed off wasting his fishing time.  :smt003
