Hi
I've had a outback for two years and want to put together a repair kit of the most commonly replaced mirage drive or rudder items. My outback is the first year that they went with the reversible drive and I have heard that they made fin changes in the next model so if anyone knows about fin compatibility for the first year I'd appreciate that as well. Thanks in advance.

I don’t know about the 180 drive but Hobie sells a repair kit for the GT drive, which should give you a pretty good idea of the parts you might need:

As for the rudder, you definitely want to carry extra pins:

Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

After experiencing a fin mast snap on me out of the blue out at HMB...glad I had a motor or else it would have been a long paddle back from the Red Can lol

Anyways after that I put together an emergency kit just in case it happen to me on the water again.

It include everything nowhereman post but add a few tools as well. i include an a spark plug since I have a motor as well as extra batteries for the Radio.

I tend to go further out in the ocean so this kit is a MUST!!

Also to note...if your mast break, I know hobie recommend the red loctite but it isn't really necessary!! If you are out in the middle of the ocean, you need to apply HEAT to the shaft to break loose the red loctite.

I got lucky that it broke an inch from the thread so I had room to put a vice grip on and after applying heat on it for a few minutes, I was able to get it off. I tried to turn it without heat and yeah it didn't work lol

My backup plan if it didn't work was to use a screw extractor. At any rate, don't use the red loctite!!

Sounds like good advice.

Maybe a bit extreme, but I’ve got a spare Mirage drive, so I always carry it. The trick was to get it to fit in the front hatch of my AI, which is otherwise wasted space. Had to use removable bike pedals—works great.

i just remove the pedal and store the drive and peddle in the hatch when I use my trolling motor in the drive space. I leave the bolt off the pedal that secure it to the drive so I don't have to undo it all the time. Been doing that since I got the kayak.

Thanks for the feed back and good advice. WhenI come up with information about the 180 ST turbo fins I'll post it here. Thanks again for the suggestions.
