Have been using a Daiwa Saltist 30H reel as my primary reel for the last season.
I will be getting a new reel for my birthday gift and considering Avet SX G2 Series Single Reel.
Any other model I should consider?
Thank you for your recommendation.

Love the Avet G2, got the J model because I do not need as much line for where I fish and it is easier to thumb...have you looked at seigler formerly truth reels?  SGN model :smt006

I have one and they are beastly for their weight and size.

Way overkill for Rf, IMO.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

I agree.
Always want to try Avet reels for ultimately getting Tuna fishing gears (Avet MXL and LX)
As Bluefin Tunas are moving north, I want to get into Tuna fishing within the next couple of years.

True, 30lbs of drag is weird for a small reel, but ya' never know, I may need to practice flipping my kayak in the ocean breaking off a snag... :smt006

Kinda overkill for Rockfish... sturgeon would be ok.

I agree with Eddie. I think SXJ is better than SX for rf. It is much easier on gripping and handling. 2 speed is helpful, but not neccessary, same as MC.

Thank you for your advice.
I will sure to compare SXJ and SX before I make my purchase.

Thank you for your offer.  Been to CharkBait Huntington Beach Store to check out the reels.  Plan to visit soon again to check them out.

And it may be considered overkill for rockfish but it’s a great all around reel for targeting anything that swims in the sf bay or surrounding pacific.  I don’t particularly think it’s overkill for rockfish either, it’s not the lightest/funnest reel to fish, but it should cover you from shallow water 1 oz swimbaits  to dropping 10ozs of lead in deeper water.

I have old first gens.....the bearings suck and corroded quick, not sure if that’s an issue in the newer models.
