I've been leaning towards getting a faster action, longer rod for trolling for next season. Any thoughts on this one? 9'6" 15-30lb?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07B9ZGD18?pf_rd_p=c2945051-950f-485c-b4df-15aac5223b10&pf_rd_r=T7VFF0N611JBN8FSZ0JM&th=1

There's also a 9' 15-40lb and an 8'6" 12-25lb.

I currently use a 7' 15-30lb Ugly Stik, but have been told the longer, faster action rods maintain way better control of the fish.
Just not sure which to go for.

Thoughts?
Thanks!
Andrew

I have the 8’6” one. It feels really good on the dr. It feels too soft for use with dd6. I recently bought a 9’ St Croix  Wild River Downrigger Salmon rod. The build quality is not so good. I don’t recommend it.

Do you troll with a down rigger or double deep 6?

Reviving this thread...so for a downrigger, how about the 9'6" 15-30? Anyone have experience with these rods? Some on Amazon say they're great, others say they break right away. Am I over-thinking this? Should I stick with my 7' Ugly Stik?

Thanks again!

Isn't the fenwick hmx 8.6 15-30 famous?

Isn't it strange to see you are asking for salmon rod advice.
You are the seasoned salmon killers in the SF area.  :smt001

Since you insist on opinion, here is mine.  :smt044
Mine is 8'2", whenever I hook into a big salmon, I wish I had a shorter rod.
Those big fish are hard to bring in if you have longer rod, flexible rod ex. downrigger rod. Have you seen Alex.B video where he played circus with the fish with his 9' rod ? I think he mentioned somewhere he wished he get a little shorter rod.

I think 7'5 to 8'5 is perfect. It's between controlling the fish and having enough flexibility when fish trashing on the surface.

8' one piece rod for me.  The 8' length helps me control the fish around the yak.  The one piece thing is more of a convenience.

Shimano terez (or the cheaper tallus is as good for me), okuma sst (mooching), or ugly stik.  Medium to medium lite power on shimano.

Thanks for that! More seasoned fishermen than myself have told me many times that longer, bendier rods will result in less fish lost at the boat.
I want to up our tandem salmon game this season.

I picked up this 8'6" Okuma rod when I mounted my downrigger and thought it fought a 12 lber pretty nicely. I was really happy with the rod until the top 6 inches broke off while deploying gear the next trip out.

Maybe it got stepped on or something got dropped on it I don't know, but that was my experience. I only paid $24 for it so it is what it is.

Has anyone used this in a downrigger? And what model are you suggesting?

I’ve tried a few different rods in my downrigger. Nothing over 8 foot though. Honestly my favorite rod so far has been my Shimano trevala 7 ft light power.

I wouldn’t even bother with the downrigger. Too much hassle messing with weight and downrigger line. Either use a deep 6, sinker release with max of 24oz ball or mooch.

I use okuma sst, flex with a strong backbone and very affordable
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
