First trip to Stone Lagoon yesterday, 1/12. Thanks to all for getting me up to speed! Met Tyler at 7:30am on the nose. He had a 10 or 11' Outback, mine is a 12 foot Outback.
Trolled every inch of the lagoon, I had a small takedown and Tyler had a better takedown around 8:30am, right out front. Neither fish stuck. Took a break from trolling for about 20 minutes, then back at it until about 3:00pm. Tyler hung until about 3:30pm.
I trolled Little Cleo's and Kastmasters with zero weight up to 1/2 ounce egg sinker. Tried everything. Had the kayak on the van and ready for a beer when Tyler called and just landed a good steelhead, around 25 inches, release in great shape.
We both had our shirts off....maybe 65 degrees and top wind of 3kts! Best weather of the year, flat ALL DAY! What an excellent spot. Heard of friends fishing Big Lagoon and Freshwater Lagoon with slow results. Maybe the water was a tick dirty from the rain, and maybe I didn't know what I am doing yet! Thanks again to Tyler and all on this site, Ron

Thanks for the report and picture of Tyler's Steelhead.

My friend David and I went out on Stone yesterday afternoon and David caught the only fish, a 16" Steelie. We trolled pretty much the whole perimeter and I had zero bumps or strikes, which is really unusual for Stone. Using Lil Cleos in a bunch of sizes and colors which usually produces something! We were out there about a week ago with the same outcome. Seen several fish jump so we know they're around but no love for the lure.

If you fly fish from your yak, try the NE shoreline with scud and nymph patterns.  Fish slow and deliberate.
Watching the river and itching for salt.

Went out on Stone Lagoon with my social kayak group, DOA Humboldt, and did much better than 3 previous trips this month. Got several good takes and bumps, a few that stuck for a second before unbuttoning, and 2 to the net. First by the campground was a 12" cutthroat and the second was a 20" Steelie north of the previous take that left the water several times as Steelies do! Got another Steelie hookup in the same area but came off after a few head shakes. Much more productive! Water level is high but still a ways from breach. Big Lagoon is a mud hole at the ramp by the way! Photo by Steve Baker of me with 20" fish in net. Soon as I removed hook he jumped out of the net into the water so I didn't get a closeup! I do have YouTube video of it at   Fish on at the 6:37 mark.
