Giving or receiving game birds?

Hi all, 

Today I was coming in from fishing and loading my things in my car when I started talking to a duck hunter returning from his day. The person was super nice and friendly. After talking for a while, he asked me if I wanted some ducks as his freezer still has ducks.

I wanted to take them but I didn’t know if that was legal? I didn’t know so I politely said no thank you. This place is frequently visited by DFG so I didn’t want to take a chance. I don’t have a hunting license nor do I even know what species are allowed or not.

Does anyone know if it would have been legal for me to accept them?

You could accept them. I would get a note from the hunter with his license number and his other info to prove they were gifted if you
 got checked.
