I went out of HMB on sunday to crab and fish - had a nice day over ~6h on the water.  I also tested my new shark shield I got through the group buy and had a question about the beeping.  About 4-5 hrs into the day, the SS starts beeping every few seconds to let me know the battery is on its way out.  To me, a big part of the joy in fishing on the ocean is the serenity.  A consistent beep kind of screws this up a bit.  I could turn the unit off, but that defeats the purpose.  So, I have two questions....

Can you stop the beep notifications?

Has anyone hooked up one of these to an alternative power supply to extend battery life OTW so the beeps do not happen?

I suggest you fully charge your SS the day before your trip.  Mine has never had low battery issues after 4 hours and its 3 yrs old.

It was fully charged, and it lasted the full ~6h otw... just beeped at me for the last hour or so.  Not really sure when it started (4-5 hrs is a rough estimate).  It seems from the manual that beeping starts when ~20% battery left, which is in the ball park were talking about here.

My SS is pretty old, but it only beeps for about 15 minutes before it dies. Maybe it’s different on the new ones, but it makes no sense to me that it would beep for an hour or more.

If you figure out how to hook it up to your FF battery, I’d be interested to hear about that.
Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

When I first got my SS, I was told that it has to cycle a few times to get full service ..... after the first 3-6 cycles it did seem to last longer ... now will last 6-8 easily

That's good to know.  I'll keep going and see if it keeps it up after 5 or so trips out.  I may look in to wiring up a battery.  I'll post anything I come up with.  Thanks!   :smt006
