1 ling...Only 3 blacks?  Fine ... but watching ppl keep small ass <14 inch rockfish just to fill their stringer is almost more upsetting.  I’m seeing it a lot down in Monterey and SC. Their probly not NCKA but sucks.

Yeah that's a bummer... I like to keep one keeper for meat then keep fishing for the bigguns.  Now by the letter of the law I could be in trouble if I kept hooking ling's in search of a cab.  Seems like there has been plenty of ling's caught and released too... Is there really an inventory problem?

I wouldn’t call it the letter of the law. You can’t fish for something you’ve already reached a limit on. You can keep fishing for other rockfish though and you might get a big ling in the process. It is still illegal to release the first one and trade up. I agree though, one ling limit sucks.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

I suspect we will continue to see tighter and tighter regulations across the board for all fisheries.  In most of the fish related internet/social media groups that I follow 95% of the people who participate in them are all about "catching limits".  I look at these massive stringers and think,  there is no way you are going to eat all that.  I could be wrong of course,  I dont know them in real life,  maybe they have a big family, lots of friends, or eat fish daily and keep a stocked freezer.

I like to fish more than I like to eat fish, so I release the vast majority of what I catch.

Also,  while I love the idea of a freezer stocked full of fish that I caught, my family will only eat so much fish (especially since my kids are not super interested in it).  Dont get me wrong, if it wasnt for the mercury thing, I would likely eat fish daily, but I dont.  One decent sized ling represents several meals for my family.

I suppose a single ling limit will be a good excuse for me to go out more and catch a fresh one.

One ling limit, salmon 24"minimum...

That stinks. A few years ago they almost raised the lingcod limit to 5! I actually wish they'd lower the bag limit on halibut in Tomales Bay. That place is getting overfished. But lingcod have been doing so well.

And what's with this 24" limit on salmon? Are you sure that's not the size limit for south of Pigeon?

Yeah, I saw it over there too. I bet that's the south-of-Pigeon size. It's been 20" here for as long as I can remember.
If the size on salmon goes to 24", I can't stand to think of al the shakers that will die.

A lot of those salmon you release will die. Salmon are fragile. I keep the first two legals I catch.

Do you have any sources to back that up?  Not telling you you're wrong, genuinely curious.

My opinion is scale loss and stress...unless you release them with super care...they are perfect bait for the next predator... :smt006
