Sweet.....and you didn’t even have to beat up a twelve year old to get it!

Oh my boy Billy was not a 12-yr old!  He is a 55-yr old scrawny skullet loudmouth looking for a quick score.  Things haven't been going too well for Billy, I'm afraid.  When I met him at the beach he had dollar signs on his eyes like a Bugs Bunny cartoon. "I got salvage rights on this boat!!!  Apparently he was pretty belligerent to Dave Johnston, who located Billy and the boat at 26th Avenue beach, while I was playing Lumberjack Log Roll with my 4.7 at the Hook..  Dave almost considered calling the cops Billy was so self-righteously belligerent.

When I got there, I told him dude I'm under pressure here. It's getting dark and I still have two boats missing. "blah blah blah, I know my rights, you better check the law" As he ranted, I just grabbed the stern of the boat.  Dave grabbed the bow and we crossed the street, boat slid right into the 72 GMC bed..  Billy's still yelling, "what about my salvage rights!!! I told him "I'm not done with you yet.  Then offered to take him fishing as a gesture of gratitude. He replied with disdain "I got two boats I get my own fish!"  Ok... I'll buy you lunch then OK?  Told him how to contact me ,shook his hand and drove off to pursue my other two boats.

That night he emailed me:

Read the maritime law and see if there is something or some conclusion we can come to I would’ve let the whole matter go but your buddy Dave created a problem with me in my heart I just want the plastic out of the ocean all I know is my life was in peril trying to save that boat just to get it out of the water and chunks of plastic fell off of it and is in the Ocean now your goal is to make money off the tourists you offer me free fishing trips I want the plastic out of the ocean
Did you get your other two boatsOr are they now part of our ocean Please reply or I will see you in court

I wrote back only "I am taking you to lunch, right?  Haven't heard from him since. I did do a bit of research, though, and found this quite interesting.  I think my boy Billy done lost the moral high ground.  Ironic that my boat he pulled from the surf is a Predator!

Bouché     (ps, Art- Thanks God he did not have a pencil-thin!)

Pajaro desert trek details tomorrow.  Here's a couple pics.

Sadly the boat is trashed but I think it will make a great planter box for flowers in my front yard!

PS Secret Society of Santa Cruz Surfcasters really came through.  I'm still amazed this boat ended up at Pajaro after starting from the Santa Cruz Wharf.  Looks like it hit every rock along the way, and ping-ponged through the Capitola Wharf and the Cement Ship.

WoW! The ocean could bee really brutal ! If seen the last pick first without reading I would of assume a Great white Shark used it as a chew toy.  Glad the yak was found on shore instead of being part of the Floating plastics Islanad in the middle of the ocean.

You should take ole Billy to Mendy’s for a nice meal...if he wasn’t a wannabe child molester, that is.

Wow. That is an epic story... So random that Billy ended up in the papers.

One more yak to go?? I've posted in a couple groups... it's just the yellow one left now, correct?

This whole saga gets more and more wild, can you organize a re-enactment of the billy scene at one of the events? Who would play Billy tho...

hahahahahha.  I know, right?  Perfect song Cabeza!  Yes yellow one is the only still missing, and I think it's probly sunk...but, who knows?  Story is not over yet.  I'm digging it.  The one thing I'd like off the 4.7 is my SI/DI  transducer. Those things are expensive.

More later........

What a roller coaster of a story. Is there a such thing as insurance on kayaks, esp if you use them commercially?

You can insure kayaks.  Often, homeowners insurance will include that coverage.  My guy is checking it out now.  Possible complication for homeowners is that I had them stored at a commercial location.  and, of course, there's the deductible.  My problem now is, I never felt comfortable in the newer Trident 15, which is why I kept the 4.7 instead. And the 4.7 isn't available anymore..... Hopefully OK will be coming out with a new design for a flagship boat.

Sorry this happened to you Bushy, but it has provided a nice distraction of a read while the weather is acting up!

that is awesome that you at least got two of them back, even if they are pretty battered.
