A co worker of mine asked me about going clamming today and I told her all I knew was to go on a minus ride and I'd ask so just wondering where to go and what they need to get out there and enjoy themselves any info is appreciated.

ideally, minus tide is prefer. the higher the minus tide the better. Although, I've dug for them on non minus tide but it's harder to get them. 2 most popular clamming area that people go to are Lawson Landing and Bodega Bay. Boots, shovel and lots of digging are what you really need. Just make sure to cover back the holes,

Lawsons, you'll need a kayak or boat to get to the good clamming islands.  Although on a big minus tide, there are some areas along the shore that hold some horse rock clams.

Bodega is easy access from the harbor road, but much of the clamming has been over foraged these days.  They are still some there but you need to walk out much further in the mud than past years.  Watch the incoming tide as you don't want to get stuck out there as the water recedes back in.

In addition you will need a clam tube to keep the sand from collapsing back into the hole. You can buy it  at Lawson landing.

Clam tube isn't a necessity but does make it easier if the clam is really deep.  I just go with my hands and bucket.  I stopped using a shovel because you can accidentally hit the clam or cut the neck.  Then it counts as two instead of one take for the day.

If you want to save $30 you can cut the bottom off a 5 gallon bucket and use that as a tube. Works like a charm.

In my experiences most of the clams I have dug out is almost 3ft deep so I find the tube a necessary tool. Yes I have my fair share of damaged clams. I dig,  try to feel the clam, and repeat until I feel the clam. It has served me well.

Can you please show me where it states this in the regs?

Thanks
