I'll be spending next week on the south fork of the Yuba river. Most of the info I can find online refers to the north fork and the Lower Yuba below Engelbright dam. I'm a novice freshwater fisherman but will be borrowing a trout setup and tackle from a friend.

Any ideas from those who know what to expect or target?

Thanks

Thanks for the info! Am I looking for deep pools? Are there any trout to target or mostly smallies?

I'll be staying near Purdon pass, if that's of any help

I've caught some small mouth in the pools on the south fork lower down by Pleasant Valley Road. I always heard the south fork got too low and warm to sustain trout.  Plus the summer crowd at those bridges can be intense!

Major swimmers hang out there, probably only find smallies. Browns run late Sept. after first rains and temp drop

Lots of brown trout near purdon crossing. Corn eyed brown trout that is. 😄

There are a few rainbows here and there throughout that river but not enough to target in my opinion. The north fork and some spots on the middle have better fishing.

You’re better off taking your yak to Bullard bar and trolling for Kokanee. Or hitting up one of the high country lakes in the Jackson meadows or gold lakes basin areas.

thanks all for the info. i had a bunch of spinners and was able to hook the only 2 species i saw-california roach and juvenile pikeminnow. it was primarily a swimming trip, but i stayed on private land with great river access to deep, long and unpeopled pools
