Can you identify these fish

Hi,

A few weeks back I went to HMB and caught a couple of fish I couldn't positively identify.  Some help would be much appreciated especially the silver colored one.

Black, copper, mini White Sea bass/croaker/king fish

Please know your species before taking them home.

Black rockfish, copper rockfish, white croaker.

Black, Canary (possibly, been dead a while), Croaker. 

Friendly advise, don't keep a fish if you don't know what it is, limits, size, etc.

Not a canary.  That's a copper.

Ugh...I thought it was a WSB when I got to shore. (It was my first time in the ocean.) Another fisherman I was with said it looked like a mullet.  Anyway, I feel very bad about this and it wont happen again. But I'm glad I asked so that maybe other newbies don't make the same mistake.

To help me not repeat my mistake are there distinctive features of the WSB?

Hey buddy, a lot of us started out with laminated fish charts that you can learn to identify the species. You also need to know the bag and size limits.
Don't worry. We all make mistakes. Learning curve.
I am still figuring this out.
Never stop learning.

Charts should be available somewhere near you.

The charts are out there. There's a handful you ought to know. Easy stuff.

You broke no laws.  No minimum size on any of those fish. But there is a sub-limit on Black Rockfish.  5 total in your aggregate bag of 10 RCG fish.  The white croaker are called kingfish around here, and they are good to use as bait for lings and halibut.

You’ve gotta have ID down pat. There are several no take species including coho salmon, black sea bass, yelloweye rockfish.

If you are not 100% sure of the ID, snap a pic let it go then post the pic here.
