I have a 2009 Outback. The rudder will not deploy unless I manually give it a headstart.   It is the older style with the handle that is similar to the turning control handle.  I found a schematic for my model and have tried taking some pics inside the hull to see what is going on but that didn't help much.  Can anyone point me in the right direction so I can get this fixed? I have exactly zero Hobie dealers within a reasonable driving distance.

Update: after turning the kayak upside and sticking my head through the hatch (tight fit with my grape), I saw that the cable was on the inside of the in-hull rod holder and it didn't look right. I got it to the outer side of the holder and the problem was fixed. Not sure how it worked itself over there but seems to be ok now.

Interesting, however the problem may come back if the problem just right itself. Hopefully it won't  :smt003

Yeah it may happen again.  I might need to adjust the tension so it doesn’t have enough slack to get over to rod holder.  I think I have seen where some people have run an eyelet in the inside of the hull to prevent this from happening.
