Hey everyone.  The bungee that retracts the down pull cord on my 2013 outback has become un attached to the rudder pull line.  There is a metal ring that is crimped onto the bungee and rudder pull line to attach the two.  Any advice on how to remedy this? Local kayak shop wants $40 to repair but it seems like something I can do myself as access is simple.  Any one made this repair with advice?

Have not had an issue with that myself, but it looks like there might be some useful info here

thats helpful.  I am a little afraid to crimp something on there that is not a OEM hobie part...would really suck to fray or break the rudder up / down line...as of now my twist and stow works fine, but the handle does not retract, which is a minor (albeit annoying) issue.

Looks like it’s just a standard stainless hog ring. I’ve got some and the crimping tool, if you want to borrow it.

Definitely does look like a strange way to make the connection. Seems like it would have been easier to just put a loop in the rudder line and tie the shock cord to that...

I appreciate the offer, I will research those and likely end up buying the tool myself.  Never can have too many tools

Actually, a pliers can work in a pinch (ha ha), but the actual tool (about $20 at West Marine, where you'll also find a good selection of stainless hog rings) is actually pretty nice to have. It's great for bungees---I've used them for several mods to the bungees on my AI, for example.
