Does anyone know any good crawfish spots to set some traps?

I was thinking of trying around cosumnes preserve. But not sure if it is a good place. Anyone else know of any good spots around the delta?

When I was a kid and the salmon were running up to nimbus, my dad would fish for salmon and I’d go catch crawfish. Back then, every rock you flipped over had a hand full of crawfish under it. But now, I rarely see any at the river.

Any help would be appreciated.  I’ll be back stateside in September so I’ll be hitting the water ASAP and trying to plan some trips.

I don't know cosumnes or the delta so I can't help ya there.  Berryessa, specifically the creek arm on the southwest  has always produced for me. Good luck, and come home safe.

THey fish crawdad mmercially out of Isleton, and I've caught plenty out of what used to be called Bruno's Island and around Owl Harbor (near Rio vista). I'm sure you'll score anywhere in that general area.  I'd think twice about Cosumnes Preserve. They have a lot of warning signs in the parking lot recommending against eating resident fish in that area....

Are you talking about capell creek right near Steele campground?

Yep. My favorite spot is right at the big mouth to Capell Cove, outside of the no wake zone. There is a point that comes out from the south and if you navionics you can find a shallow spot with depth on all four sides 30 or so yards off the point (changes with the water level). That spot gets fished all day by the bass boats so I drop my pot 30-40 yards away from it with a big visible buoy. Only been skunked once there.

Klamath River above Copco Reservoir. It’s thick in there, hundred in a trap for an overnight soak.

That’s a heck of a drive for me from Sacramento, but thanks for the tip. Next time I go camping up that way I’ll definitely give it a shot.

Is he still alive or have anything growing on him?  :smt044

We tried a couple of times back in the days but was never successful finding those ditches.

There's a bunch of other super productive spots in the summer up here in the great State of Jefferson.  Just be careful in the Pit River system, theres some protected native crawfish and closed waters you have to look out for, but you can also go to a place like Iron Canyon which is a storage lake for the system that moves McCloud water to the Pit and kill it.

If you ever get up to Tahoe they got some great crawdads there. Big Signals from super clean water.
