I live 10 minutes away from the wharf, but have never used the public landing as a launch site. Is it convenient, or a PITA?? The harbor is always my go-to, but the paddle to the nearest reef is long...

I have not launched from the wharf, but another option is Mitchell's cove. If you can handle the stairs (lots and lots of stairs) and the surf/tide is not too high, that'll put you right in the middle of some good places to fish.

I've used the SC wharf public launch as a spot to pick up/drop off people.   It's definitely doable as a kayak launch spot if you have a smallish kayak.  Tight stairs.

Oh, there are two landing/launch spots.  The first is right next to the kayak rental and is usually full of traffic (maybe not at 6am, but definitely at 12pm), the other is the public landing spot a little further out.

A very strong buddy humped both mine and his Prowler 15's down and up those Mitchell 's cove stairs once, holding them over his head.  Otherwise it's a not very easy 2 person job.  I've pipe dreamed of a trolley system -anchored at top and bottom - ski lift style - could be dangerous even if it's physically possible: gravity, you know.
I've heard of people launching near that one house on the water side of West Cliff, but to me, that looks like conditions would have to be good on entry on exit, though the path down to the rock shelf isn't that steep or long, and a smallish kayak would be best.
Natural Bridges beach never looks doable to me, if it's even legal.

Are there any free parking available near Mitchell's cove or Cowell?

There is parking along West Cliff right at Mitchell's cove, and it should be no problem getting a spot early in the morning.

Thank you Mark.
I always hate going to Capitol because of the 4 hr limit and meter everywhere.

In Capitola, you can park along Prospect Ave for free (up on top, across the railroad tracks).

I have an AI and I'm lazy, so almost always launch from the SC harbor.

PM me and I'll be glad to tell you my secret spot. Or ask Bushy, because I just fish wherever he fishes...
