A few flatties came into the Santa Cruz harbor today, all caught in 40 ft on the inside of lighthouse pt.

What's the deal with halibut and tides?  I have heard that in Tomales bay, it is best two hours before and after high tide, and that the tide not be really extreme.

Do these rules stand in other placed like Santa Cruz?  I can imagine that the tide "rules" in Tomales are different than in other places.

It's pretty much all about water clarity as far as I figure.  

IME, the tide has a much greater impact in Tomales bay and the SF Bay than in the open ocean in terms of water clarity and baitfish movements.

Seems that swell height (ground swell) is the big factor in the open ocean that affects water clarity in terms of halibut activity.
