Tried to get bait last night.  No dice.  Tried a different spot this morning, and scratched up four MONSTER shiners.  At first, I couldn't believe they were shiners!
The smallest of the baits...

The two that wound up on the hook were closer to palm sized.

Four baits was plenty, as I knew I had limited time to spend on the water this morning.

Launched just before 7am, and went for a bumpy ride out towards the break in the wall.  About 2/3 of the way, I said the hell with it and threw on some bait and started the drift back towards the launch ramp.

I had drifted nearly all the way back to the corner with nothing to show for it, then suddenly the rod tip gave a little wiggle before going bendo.  A couple little runs, but nothing special.  22" striper in the net.

Got the fish unhooked and on the clip as quick as I could, cause my spidey senses were tingling.  Paddled back to the spot where I hooked up and dropped down another doomed shiner.

It took less than ten seconds to hook up again.  This one was bigger, and smarter too.  I'd get the fish within netting range, and it would BOLT.  It started to seem that the fish was watching me, waiting for me to reach for the net before peeling off another few yards of line.  After a few rounds of this, I put the net away (in the rod holder behind me), and at the last moment grabbed the net and scooped the fish in one motion.  It probably didn't look as smooth as it sounds, but it worked.  This one was 28".

With my limit of striper, I paddled back in, packed up, and was off to work by 9:15.
