Big J...I sprang for a car rack instead of the Sportsrig trailer. Since I have impaired vision, I thought it wouldn't be very easy to be backing up to the water. My car is low enough to not aggravate my frozen shoulder. I picked up the new Thule Slipstream which allows sliding of the base to ensure that loading/unloading of the kayak avoids contact with the car.

I would have liked to rack my truck but that would have meant a more expensive rack and having to raise a kayak another 18+ inches above my shoulder.

I presume the DMV is disappointed with my decision.

Good for you, Hojoman! :thumright: I heard Thule was coming out with this new system, but I haven't seen it yet. It really sounded promising. As far as DMV, my trailer only cost about $20 to register for 5 years plus the one-time difference in sales tax that Alameda Co. charges for purchases (about $40 or so). And about backing up: Well, my vision IS good, and I still can't back up the trailer straight yet--but I'm practicing! I'm glad you found a solution to meet your needs...so when are you going to be on the water next?

Still looking for a yak. I'm very interested in the Marauder but want to see the new Prowler 15 before becoming eligible for debtor's prison.
