I was wondering if anyone knows of a group of paddlers that gets together around the tri-valley region? (Dublin-Pleasanton-Livermore) This board seems to have the most kayak-related postings, so I figured I would try here.

Stuff like group paddles, BBQs, potlucks - that kind of thing. And mostly flat water (lakes, etc) not whitewater or ocean.

I attended the kayak demo day this past weekend up at Del Valle and it was a lot of fun paddling around with other people, just hanging out.

I'm not much into fishing otherwise I would be all set just by hooking up with you guys, grin.
...Thank for any leads

Hi researcher - I was at Del Valle on Saturday (fishing from a yellow Prowler 15). Funny you mentioned the paddling thing. Vince at Aquan Sports just got the idea of starting out a Paddling Club within the Bay Area. Hani and I will lead the project and will be getting this club rolling pretty soon. Hani is an instructor / trainer for several Adventure Race Teams and has been involved with getting newbies into the sport. He currently does free paddling classes at the Foster City Lagoon every Wednesday nights (7PM to whenever). Keep an eye on the hook-up section / General Talk regarding the Paddling Club.....I'm not just a fisherman on a kayak - I love to paddle as well  :smt002

See you on the water soon!

Oh man, that is awesome information. Definitely count me in.
I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled for any upcoming posts regarding your paddling club.
IIRC, isn't Aquan sports having a grand opening event of some sort?

Cool, I didn't know you were into paddling (other than fishing)
Too funny... After being a lurker on this forum for a year now, I know which kayak is yours so I was actually keeping an eye out for you on Sat (I saw your other post about being at Del Valle on the 19th)
Well, a buddy of mine, and myself, started paddling off towards the next "section" of the lake, only to be asked to stay closer, doh. So much for that idea.

Yeah, now that the good weather is upon us, I really want to maximize the number of times I get out on the water.

Thanks for the great reply

Yes they are, it will be this weekend at the Aquatic Center in San Mateo (just North of the Fish Market). I will be there on Saturday (all day) manning the NCKA booth and Monday I'll be there to test paddle a few kayaks (sit inside and sit on top)

I believe the lagoon is 4 miles long. The location itself has a lot of parking, BBQ + benches, bathrooms, kids playground, a beach and a swim area.

I'll also start organizing some kayak camping trips for the club - looking forward to that!!!

Joel, how about Lexington Reservoir?
IIRC, they only allow electric trolling motors. I sure like kayaking there.

Do you know if Aquan will be charging for their demo day?
I've never been to that lagoon before, can I also bring my own yak and paddle around? Or do they only allow their rentals on the water.
Thanks

Lexington is nice....IMO: I like Loch Lomand better cause you can hit the island and set up a BBQ :smt002

Aquan will not charge for demos - you are more than welcome to paddle your own yak at the lagoon = it's a public launch site. I believe you only need to pay or register if you plan to launch a motorized boat.

Thanks for the good news Joel. I'll probably go check it out (Aquan)

I've never been to Loch Lomond before, but it looks nice. Let me know when and I'll make the drive

Lists the web links to the majority of the kayak clubs in California - and in the United States. http://www.kayakandcanoeguidebooks.com/page8.html

Thanks for the links ScottThornley & Skygreen

So far, I'm leaning mostly towards joining the peninsula meetup group (Acquan). Was hoping to attend their 'Fun Day' event today, but am still battling the flu.

I organized a very small social paddle at Del Valle last month. It turned out pretty good - mostly just friends/family to get the ball rolling. We had 5 kayaks go out then a nice BBQ after. Am hoping to do another in August.
