Sadly, I’ll be shore bound until I get my new kayak next month. I’ve been out fishing a few times since and I just don’t have the gear needed to reach the spots I can from a yak. Does anyone have any recommendations for surf rods $100 or less? Currently looking at a few Penn rods and a Fiblink. I’d like to be able to use it for primarily stripers and halibut.

Check out the Daiwa emcast series. Pretty nice quality for the price.

Outdoor pro shop has them.

Daiwa Emcast will likely be your best bet for around $80.  I plug for stripers and Halibut all the time with a medium heavy 8'6" daiwa acculite and daiwa exceler 3000.   No need for such a big rod inside the Bay.

You just have to fish from the right spot. You do already have a wetsuit for kayak fishing - correct?

Are you plugging or soaking bait? If plugging, go with a rod that's rated somewhere around 1/2-3oz.

If it’s from shore I’m usually soaking bait like squid on a 2-5oz weight. HAHA I do have a wetsuit but I’m not sure I’d want to wait for low tide to be able to go home 😂 I’ll look into Daiwa and I sent you a PM Darius.

I have a Shimano Clarus Steelhead Spinning Rod 8'6'' Medium.  Lure weight is 3/8 - 3/4oz.

I love this rod.  I don't find myself tossing more than 3/4oz lures because it's usually pretty shallow.   Can launch them pretty far tho.

I wouldn't use this for bait, only lures.

Would a MH rated 15-30 lb line be effective for leopard sharks? Or should I switch to the 20-40 lb test heavy version? Just worried that the heavy version would be too stiff for halibut/stripers.

The okuma rockaway would be worth checking out for that price range
