I'm looking to take a step up from my Ugly Tiger Stik (spinning 7' med) to something else. I understand that the general consensus in this situation would be the Shimano Trevela. I know it's a jigging rod but is it also perfectly fine for bait soaking?

I'm also looking for a rod to use on the HMB jetties if anyone has ideas.

Picked up my sturgeon on it this year

Yes, they’re actually pretty versatile. I’ve used my 7ft med-light Trevala for jigging, trolling, casting, dunking bait from kayaks, boats, piers, and the shore...in fresh and saltwater.

I've used mine for all the above. They're great.

Just ordered a 7ft ML today to go with my 6'6 MH.

Hmm, would the 7' med-light be capable of hauling in a sturgeon and chucking a 5oz weight? Or should I go with the 6'6" med for that? Oh, and I'm just wondering but how come a lot of heavier rods don't have cork handles?

I was chucking an 8oz pyramid but you gotta get used to it and settle for the not far cast but I goes far enough.  From shore would not work.

I've fished my ML for basically everything around here. Paired with a Luna, it is my go to. Got my oversized sturgeon on it this year, and a 20+ halle last year. Bunch of normal salmon.

Also got a 60ish# rooster on the mh with the little a vet years ago.

@SteveS Wow. It's been a goal of mine to catch one this year...and also learn how to use a baitcaster haha.

I was debating a few other rods but with everything thats been said here I think I've settled on the ML 7' version. Thank you NCKA for always being so helpful!

I looked on Shimano's website and it states that the Trevala 7' ML should have "Fuji SIC" guides but every site I've visited states that is has "Fuji
Hardloy" guides -_- I'm going to call Shimano later and get some clarifcation.

Just checked with Shimano and they said that all Trevala 7' ML should have Fuji SIC guides and that there wasn't any new model or revision. I'm about to pull the trigger but I'm just worried that the action will be too parabolic and I'll have trouble setting the hook. Can anyone speak from experience about the rod's action?

The fish sets the hook most of the time.  It just needs a little help, not a swingin' for the fences kinda set. I thought it was to parabolic in the beginning but I've had enough hook ups where it is a non issue.
