I know it might be too late, but I was wondering if there are still some chance of catching the spring trouts or bass in Lake Sonoma!?  It has been still pretty cool here these couple of days, so I though it might not too late.  The ocean is pretty nasty so I wanna spend time in more fresh water, but Juan & Whites probably caught all that fish at Mendo, so how about "Sonoma"...  I actually never fish or even went there before, so if someone can give me some tips that would be great!

Naoaki  the Steelies can still be caught on the surface until the Sun hits the water as soon as that happens they are dropping down to 25'. Almost any small spoons will work or DD Shad Raps black and Silver being the best color. For Bass the topwater bite is starting to turn on and most of the fish are being caught at 4/5' deep some of the fish are still spawning so you can fish the beds. I would fish senkos in dark colors and noisy cranks.

If I was going I would launch at first light troll for steelies by heading up the warmsprings arm following the creek channel staying on the north side until the Marina then switching to the south side the open area just past loggers camp can be very good if you can stay with the channel there has been a lot of crappie in there too.  I would then fish my way back for bass, fishing the shallow points and backs of coves, and hitting the rocky areas for smallies with a crawdad plastic or small cranks. Don't be afraid to fish really shallow couple of times it's been really slow until I started fishing 18" of water.

I'm hoping to join you but being gone all last weekend and planning on Mem. weekend I have a big Honeydew.

Dry creek Store on Dry Creek road opens Early has Small Minnows.
I won't be able to make it I didn't get much done today. But I did find a garage sale with a bunch of great fishing gear really cheap.

Just thought I would let you guys know lake Sonoma steelies turn on about June. I am not sure why you guys think its over. it has not begun! They will be in 25 to 50 ft deep but it is the best and easiest time to catch them. They will also be fat. catching them before June will give you post spawn eels. They will bite well until the end of July. They are hard to catch in the fall and the spring. Mind you this is from a boat but I have tubbed for them also. Drifting minnows will be the way to go for you guys. The only problem you will have is competing with boats so you need to fish early

Do you troll for them(steelies) in June and July?  What type of gear are you using?  I don't know that lake very well.  What area of the lake seems to be productive for steelhead during the summer?  Thanks for the heads up.

big eye it is me Tom (drank your beer) i met you at ukaih. I would be glad tp help you out but can,t post all my secrets on this board quite yet. I sometimes get 15 to 20 per trip in June /July. I hardly fish it before then.  They are 1 post spawn and 2 skinny plus hard to  catch early and late in the year, Just the opposite of what it should be. In June they will all be in the thermocline and I know right where that is. I troll with the boat you saw at mendo, but I have pontoons and caught them just as easily. The size goes down every year because people keep all of them. It use to be 20" average up to 25", now it is 12" with a big one at 20. If you promise to catch and release except for an occasional dinner I will clue you in to to some fantastic fishing. we could meet there and fish together in the boat or meet there and you do the kayak and I will do the boat. I want to boat it first and then pontoon it after I find them this year. I have not been out yet but my pig eating them friends are catching skinny ones since early may. they are hard fighting in June which is the best month. contact me [email protected]

I took the PB out yesterday and fished the back of the lake. Saw a few HUGE  bass cruising around the shallows. They are still spawing, I landed one 6-7lber and lost another bigun. You may want to consider the Yorte Creek access if your interested in LMB.
