I drive 75 miles to work one way pretty much everyday and Ive seen a lot of crazy stuffs on the road. Been in a collision once (not my fault) and the other guy tried to make up stories to deny liability. He lost eventually. Just something I’ve been considering and just wondering if anyone has any recommendations.

I use a KDLinks R100 for my truck. Like you, I see a lot of craziness on the roads on the way to work -- way too many entitled people on the way to Redwood City from San Jose.. lol.. Anyway, because of that, I purchased a dashcam for those just-in-case situations. I made a video sample for people to check out as I get a lot of questions about it; best to see what it looks like. Just keep in mind, Youtube downgraded the video quality through compression, image size, etc. I highly recommend it. Has 2 cameras -- one for the front and another for rear view.

I repurposed an old gopro 3 for my dashcam.  I've been considering a kdlinks or magellean for GPS, speed, time etc. data integration.

Same here. I use a suction cup accessory with the GP 3+ during trips to SoCal. Limefuel battery (no longer in production) gives me 7 hours of shoot time.

It seems to me that a dash camera is just as likely to hurt you as it is to help you.  Don't assume that you will be the innocent party in any accident.  For example, suppose that your dash camera shows you rear ending another vehicle which was stopped at a red light, or veering across the centerline and sideswiping an on-coming vehicle, or engaging in "road rage" activity which results in an accident.  An injured party or a prosecutor can obtain your dash camera footage, and if you try to erase the footage or hide the fact that you had a dash camera, that will not look good.

On the other hand, it may provide you with some great footage of other people having accidents which you can post on YouTube.

That’s impressive. Have to seriously consider it as I see lots of lunatics driving on Highway 17.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

I highly recommend them.  I've been witness to two accidents directly in front of me where the CHP was able to easily close their investigations using video from my dashcam.  I've been amazed at how even my own eyewitness accounts taken before viewing the video had significant differences after seeing the video.

I consider it the best investment in "car insurance" I've done in the past few years.

I can honestly say that driving long distance has made me a better driver. It has made me more cautious. It’s the other guys that scare me. Im not gonna lie, I drive fast but I don’t drive like an asshole. Im a responsible person and if it’s my fault, I will own it. But having so many close calls on the highway kinda concerns me. One time, a 18 wheeler next to me tried to move into my lane and I had nowhere else to go but brake hard and let him pass. It’s this kind of situation a camera would be useful in case an actual tragedy do happen.

I have been using a dash cam after an altercation with a bicyclist who felt I had cut him off while I was parking. Even though I was in the right it would of been my word against his if he had suffered injuries.

I have a BlackVue DR750S-2CH which is a higher end model. It has a camera front and rear. It has a built in gps and will map your location and speed at all times. If you want it to film while parked you can run it off of your main battery with a sensor that will shut it off when you battery gets below a preset level. I use an additional battery that will run it for about 24 hours. I bought mine through Blackboxmycar.com because they have lots of reviews and how to videos. The one I bought was about $400 plus the extra battery for $220.

Of course since I put it in I haven't had any altercations or seen anything worth saving the recording for.
