Extreme minus tides in the mornings later this week should provide some incredible opportunities if the forecasts of 4' swells and moderate winds hold.  I'll aim for a Roleez trip to Punta Gorda this Friday or Saturday based on forecasts panning out.  If it turns "Epic" I'll hope to stay Friday night at the mouth of the Mattole or Punta Gorda lighthouse and hike the beach right before first light Saturday.  It's a potential trophy ab/cab combo!   :smt001

Oooh I wanna go. I've got a tour till noon on friday for the Trinidad high school seniors then I'm off. I could drive over the hill and be there by 2:00. I've got lessons on saturday but can turn those over to my guy Ed. It's only monday though I'm usually all booked up by wednesday, so i'm still on the maybe list. The Cape is so forbidden and hostile. No matter which way you come it's a tough drive. Even the trek out to the put in is a ball buster, but all the data and all the intel points to it being the fishiest spot on the coast. This is wilderness kayaking, not for the weak or faint of heart. Semper Parratus

I'm off half day Thurs and then Fri-Sunday.  It's my birthday weekend.  I might be into it.  Keep us posted.

I'm having trouble concentrating due to building excitement!  By Wednesday PM we should be able to count on the forecast enough to firm up a plan.  I got the word from my man, PK, that the Shelter Cove salmon bite went WFO last Friday with fish to 30 pounds within a mile or so of the launch...  Options are nice to have - hopefully the bite gets consistent.   :smt001

Abking,
I think I am going to burst :smt007.  If the weather is going to hold I think I have to go for it.  I would love a salmon, ab, ling/red/cab weekend.  Keep us posted.

You've already got big eyes, Dave, so don't burst and get eye goo all over us!

NWS currently forecasts flat water through Saturday, but my other excellent source shows building swells Saturday.  Friday is the window at this point, but Saturday morning still has great potential.

Hawk:  if you come Friday afternoon we may or may not be able to fish offshore even if it's flat as hell - you saw how windy it was in my reports from last Friday/Saturday...

BigEye:  if these forecasts pan out you and I will want to be on the beach at fist light Friday.

More later - here's the 5AM Friday swell forecast that looks very promising.

Sounds good, guys!  Who can come up Thursday evening and camp at the Mouth of the Mattole?  We're talking a little over an hour from 101 just north of Fortuna.  Of course, I don't have permission on that yet, but I can always leave the house at 4:30AM...  At this point Saturday is still looking good for the early morning, but Friday is still looking like the window.  It'll vary all the way up 'til then...

I'm pretty sure I can swing saturday with a friday night campout. I've got tours till midday on friday then I'm off for the Cape. My lil bro just got his PHD in Philosophy and is going to be kickin it with me this summer to unwind. I'm dragging him along also, though I'm not even sure if he fishes. I plan on shooting a mega amount of pictures to promote this sport, so wear your best duds and shine up those boats

Great, Hawk - glad you're coming, and looking forward to meeting little bro, "Sparrowhawk?"...   :smt001  I got permission on Thursday night campout, but Friday my girl's school carnival requires my attendance, so I'll come back out early Saturday morning.

BigEye - bring the salmon gear!  The ling/rockfish/ab is the focus, but I once hooked a big salmon and brought it to the surface on a shrimpfly out there while jigging, and there's plenty of sandy bottom nearby, so we could definitely have a chance to hookup a king.  We could also try for a hali, but I've never targetted them...

Sean and I just spoke and will firm up plans tomorrow - sounds like another sweet NCKA pow-wow is forming!   :smt003
