Sorry for the late report guys. I was way too tired after a 4 1/2 hour drive back to the Bay Area. Got side tracked with the boys today... bottom line... here's my report from yesterday.

I was able to sneek out to Mendo on Friday. I got there real early. I decided to take a little nap before I launched. Got a nice little wake up call from Johnny Law while sleeping at the South Launch parking lot at 4:30am. (Told you guys I got there early.) Anyways, after a nice little chat and getting the okay after having my license and truck ran... I decided to get my stuff and get on the lake. On the water at about 4:45am and began to troll a little minnow. After trolling for about an hour, I began to think the Mendo curse was still on me. This was my fith trip there without a fish to show for it. At 6:30am the skunk was off... reeled in a nice little 22"er. I release him and fished out. At 7:30am I hooked into his big brother... a nice fat 27 1/2"er. Put him on my stringer and moved on. No boils to be seen all morning long. About 45 minutes later, I hooked into a little 20"er... bye bye fishy. I paddled some more with no hits. Got bored and moved to the opposite side of the lake. That's where the action really picked up. I didn't see another yak on the water until I saw Sean and his buddy Dan fishing deep in a cove. I hooked into some nice LMBs and SMBs there. I talked to Sean briefly and fished on. (Sean... You packed it in a little too early bro. The fishing really picked up after you left.) I started to hook into fish all over that place. They hit my zoom, rapalla and minnows. My five best LMB easily went over 20 lbs which is a best for me. The quality of these fish was outstanding. Nice fighters and fat. I ended up hooking into many LMB and SMB around the cove. My biggest went 21 1/4" and 18" respectively. I also hooking into what I thought was going to be a lake record. To my surprise... I caught a big cat on a Zoom. Man, that thing fought like crazy. Best fighting fish I had all day. It took me 10 minutes to get it to color and 15 minutes to finally land him. Oddly enough, another big cat was following it until I got it to the boat. It was a PB for me. Took some pix of him and released him to got back to his girlfriend. The only fish I kept yesterday was the striper that made my girlfriend's dad really happy.

Freddie, I'm glad Mendo treated you well. This IS a good year for the bass here. I've been surprised by the quality too.
How did you rig the zoom?

Fuzz-

I didn't hear from you... what did you end up doing??? Slaying some big sea bass...?

Mako1-

Rigged it with a 1/8oz. jig head, a 3/0 trailer hook and a rattle. I never fished a zoom before... it looked pretty ugly but it work like a champ. The fish that hit it, hit it hard... even the cat. It's mouth was pretty much pinned... one hook in the upper jaw and one in the lower. No way of losing alot of the fish that took it. Those things hold up pretty well too. I only tore up two of them.
