Everyones been talking about crabbing in HMB but due to being new to yaking, I don’t have the necessary equipment to travel with the Yak. So... can we crab snares/pots in Alameda?

Thanks!

Not allowed to take any Dungeness inside of San Francisco Bay. Red/Rock crabs can be taken however.

Which necessary equipment are you referring to?  We here on the forum may have extras to bring for the opener

Thanks chattich for confirming what I read about that.  The rules and regulation in Cal is very overwhelming for me (so is the rent 😵) and the salt species I have to get familiar with.  So here’s what I know:

- dungeness has white pincher so a no in SFO
- crab pots and snares ok
- minimum is 4”

So if I am missing something, let me know.

Thanks!

Basically for transporting the kayak.  When I bought it, it barely fit inside the suv and it covered most of the passenger side view, thankful for the blind spot alert and luckily I only have to take left turns Going back.  So trying not to push my luck until I am properly set up for it.

I do appreciate the offer and maybe someday I can join you guys and learn a thing or two.  But until then, Alameda for now.

I'm in Alameda and have some gear you can use. PM me and I'll get you up to speed. Room on my rig for an extra boat if you want to try the ocean sometime. I don't usually go for red/rock crabs but would join you here in A-town for fun.

- Dungeness cannot be caught/taken inside the Bay (inside the Golden Gate Bridge)
- Red and Brown Rock Crab are year round both inside and outside the Bay.  Though check the DFG website for domoic acid closures
- Red/Brown Rock crabs must be at least 4".  Make sure you have a crab gauge, as most DFG officers won't accept any other form of measuring tool.
- Your limit is 35 per person.
