I don't think I explained myself well. I "unintentionally" said the labor is huge that's why they charge quite a bit to service the reel even though the value of the reel itself is not much.

I totally agree.  The labor is huge, meticulous and takes skilz and dedication.  My wife was looking at me all funny, questioning whether I was spending my time wisely.  Although I did enjoy the time spent, I don't think I'd do it again... as it would become an expensive hobby!  Unfortunate... given I wanted to learn to clean, grease and oil... easier said than done.

Not the best do it yourself guy but I do regular maintenance of my spinning and low profile reels.  So far, none have exploded.  I can do it for ya FREE but...... there’s a big chance that an abu garcia reel goes in and comes out as a super lubed salt resistant paper weight.  Again it’s free but there’s the risk to consider.

Johny,
Thanks for the kind offer.  If you disassemble it, it may not be in the order that it's supposed to be in. So, if you are familiar with those particular reels, go for it.  I can then donate them.  No one has yet taken up my offer to give the reels to a kid, or something like that.  I already bought another backup reel and am looking forward to trying it.  If you're not familiar with those particular models, putting it back together in that same sequence may change nothing, as I've already lubed it.  I appreciate you offering your time and kindness like this, so lmk.  I just want to be able to get it into another's hand in a good condition.  Thx again for your kind offer.

I think you might have tighten it too much.  I did that to my reels before....

Another option to consider is donating them to HOW if you can't find a fishing-related kids program.
Btw I'd avoid those BCX reels :-)

Which HOW co-ordinator should I hit up?
As for the BCX, it was a reel I purchased many years ago, not knowing much about them. Plastic-y inside...

Paging Ben or RacinRob... while HOW doesn't really do saltwater events, they could be useful for bay/delta stripers, catfish, halibut, sturgeon.

Baitcasters are really not that hard to take apart and reassemble, they are almost all the same.they vary slightly from manufacture to manufacture.if you ever take one apart again, take pics at every step when you start the disassembly.my first reel i ever took apart I had to send it to a repair man.but now I service all my reels myself.i had a friend that did the same thing you did,and I had to pull it apart and put it back together.if there was a local confident repair shop I’d take it there.taking these reels apart is extremely time consuming
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
