Tuesday morning at 3:00 am I woke up with severe back spasms. I didn't fish in Simply because the week before I had the same thing. This time it was so bad I couldn't take it. I tried to stretch, walk and take some ibuprofen for the swelling. Nothing was working.

I went to work at 7:00 hoping it would just go away. By 11:00 I had enough and drive myself to the hospital. After running a few test and an ultrasound the Drs let me know I had a gallstone blockage. They were going to need to operate. The problem was I also had an unknown infection they had to get under control before they could.

I was checked in on Tuesday. Surgery was postponed on Wednesday because my levels haven't dropped. Thursday they finally removed my gallbladder. Apparently it had gangrene which was what was causing the infection. My gallbladder was literally killing me over a few week period.

So here I sit in the hospital with n a shitload of pain thinking wtf?

Gangrene? WTF!!!  Were you recently in the jungle and fell in a punji stick trap?  Yikes.  That sounds horrible!  Hope you recover soon!

so glad you got it handled before it was overly critical. Good call to not just "tough it out".

My father in law just went through this exact thing. Inflamed gall bladders are no joke. You get a stone and it erodes the bladder wall, then boom you are in danger of death by sepsis.

sorry bout the pain. You're in the hospital, get 'em to give you some o the good stuff. Tramadol works wonders, and since it is synthetic usually no opiate side effects.

Hope that you're doing better. Pulling for a speedy recovery !

The take home message here for all of us though ... LISTEN TO YOUR BODY !!! Infections like this lead to sepsis in no time, and from there,  it can be a quick road with no return. Glad that you listened to what your body was saying and got help.

I'm home now recovering pretty uncomfortably if I may so so. I don't know when I'll make it back out on the water so I have some big decisions to make.
