I had the morning off so I hit Mendo.  Cold, windy rainy...no shorts today.  No bait early in the am either.  Scratched out 4 tiny pinhead shad.   Went to the zone and it was too windy.  Couldn't even keep it straight with the rudder, and it was getting yucky.

Went back by the launch so I would have a short paddle if I wanted to bail.  Saw a few small boils but a few retards kept putting them down.

Then they left.  Then the wind laid down.  Then huge schools of shad surfaced.  Then the stripers went kooky...and I had it all to myself!!! :tongue4:

Had one insane take down on bait that damn near tipped the Dorado and then broke off.  Ditched the rest of the bait and started fishing the Zoom.  It was one of those days.  8 hookups, seven to the boat...30", 29", 28"X4, and a 27".

There were a few bankies just out of casting range that were ready to kill me if I caught another one.

As an aside I sprung for a fancy spinning reel as my others were toast.  After playing with the all at Fred Hall I went for one of these...http://www.quantumfishing.com/fwreels/energyPTi_spinning.html. It is a delight to fish with.

I have one word.  Tomorrow!  I hope it isn't one of those," you should have been here yesterday" kind of days.

Hey Sean - Way cool day on the water! I really think the stripers bite better when its overcast and kinda crappy, bright sunny days are not their thing. So, how long does the Mendo spring bite usually last? I will make the drive as soon as I'm able to get away. Would you recommend morning or evening?

Driving to work in Ukiah I couldn't help thinking how perfect it seemed for linesides at Mendo. Aaaaagh! I'm glad you proved my instinct. Those perfect days alone are cool, huh?
I got your message. I was way busy in the classroom.
It's raining pretty hard now. I won't feel like I'm missing much working the rest of the week. It's cold outside. I hope it's on when the precip tapers off, though I can't hit the morning till saturday. I hope to see other yaks then.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Well I think I had a way better day. In the morning I had a con call, then followed by a 2 hour meeting in a freezing conference room. Pretty sweet. Then after a roach coach lunch, another 2.5 hour meeting in the ice box. I was about to pull the plug and call it a day when the boss comes over and I get stuck in a 45 minute conversation that could have waited but had to happen at 5.

In other words, I hate you Sean!!!!  :smt003

Freaking GWs...  How the heck u can catch 8 stripers a day.  That would be entire catch of last year's Bendo.  You win, Sean...

Kapow!  You are the StriperSlammer.   :smt001

I think it's really mean and immature of you guys to say you hate him for this...  I won't hate him until I go to visit and don't catch a 30"er!   :smt003

Nice work on the angling, but the post is just run-of-the-mill for you...  Could we get some music playing or something with the photos?...  :smt005
