I'm looking to upgrade and wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a good fishing tandem?

I know a tandem isn't really ideal/efficient in many ways, but the wife loves it and it suits us well. We currently have a Hobie Kona which is incredibly stable (a big factor for us), but it's a little short and not very fast or maneuverable so I don't love taking it into the salt.

Any suggestions?

^ definitely nice, but far more boat than we'll need.

Maybe some more info would be helpful: probably 80% of the time it will be used for pretty casual lake fishing, and we car top so something pretty light and easily transportable would be ideal.

Gotcha, Sorry for the brevity.  :-)

In general I've always enjoyed the tandem kayak setup as I enjoy taking people fishing with me.  I started with a jackson big tuna, that was a great tandem kayak!  VERY stable.  I eventually grew out of the big tuna as I found myself wanting to go out further and stay out in "worse " conditions.  For lake conditions, the jackson big tuna would be a great kayak!  I car topped the both the big tuna and the TI.  The big tuna was much easier to move around as it was pretty light in comparison.

A boat anchor (a very big boat anchor...) is light in comparison to a TI.

I take my boys out in the salt all the time in it.

Very light and stable. We fish and dive off of this thing.

Haven't flipped it yet even when we are jumping off and on while diving.

I've got a Necky Cruiser II that is great to fish out of with another person. It's got a little more room between the front and the back and has good in hull storage for kayak camping and is stable as hell. They pop up on Clist every once in a while. roughly 14' x 36" and about 80lbs with a rudder. I've been super happy with ours and have paddled solo without too much issue.

Cheers,
Brad

If you can live without the peddles +1 on the Big Tuna. My first kayak and still in my fleet, works great tandem and as a "buddy spare" boat. Car topped on a Subaru Outback with a Malone Seawing that I lag bolted "recessed" cedar slats on to keep from denting the hull.

DO NOT get Hobie Outfitter! That boat will sink. Speaking from first hand experience here.

I have this kayak and have taken my 4 year old out at Doran beach. We mainly use it for freshwater fishing.
