I have the day off on May 1 and plan to open the rockfish season with a big ling from Stillwater/Pinnacles or Camel State Beach.  Who else can take the day off and join me?

I was planning on hitting the Pinnacles from Stillwater, so I'm with ya Etienne.   :smt004  My co-worker is trying to clear his schedule so there may be more than just us.

:laughing11: Not at all Scott...I've been busy all week prepping for a big 48-hour paintball game taking place down at Ft Ord this weekend, and I haven't been checking the NCKA threads as religiously as usual.  I missed your thread all together.  Stillwater okay with you?  The more the merrier!

Good luck and look forward to your report. Was thinking of fishing Carmel or Monterey on Friday 5/4 if you want to hook up let me know.

I'll be there.  Would be kind of interesting to try the canyon for salmon, haul them back to the cooler, then hit the lings.  Probably too much for one day, but I've never tried that.
I checked the surfing website and they predict less wind and smaller surf than this week, so let's hope they've got it right.

And Scott, it took me a while to realize that rockfish season isn't months away, even if you did put the date in your post.

Sorry Scott, I would have added to your post but did not even see it.  Please join us if you are available.  I have been so busy at work I have hardly had time to read about fishing.  I think I was in meetings all day.  With regard to Friday, I will be in Houston  :smt011 but will return late that evening so I am planning to fish on the weekend also, but that will be a different thread.  Tom it sounds like the Pt. Pinos bite has turned off but if the reports improve I would much rather be eating salmon but will settle for rf and lings if needed.

I think trying the canyon is worth a (long) shot.  It is not too far of a paddle to suitable water.  I wish I could join you guys but I gotta fly back East for the week.  Hope you guys nail 'em (both salmon and RF)!

Just make sure you're aware of all the tricky regs.
For example, if you catch a salmon then go for rockfish, you must use a barbless circle hook for the rockfish (if using bait. If using lures you will just have to bend down the barbs…I think...).
And, if you catch rockfish first, you might not be able to fish for salmon in water deeper than 240 feet (I may be wrong about that one though).
SO confusing!

Good luck guys,
PK

I am dying to get out but I can't justify spending 100 in gas to drive out. I'll be out there this weekend. I am going to hit the pinnacles. Hoping Pat and Randy can make it to give me a tour of Carmel Bay.

We won't be able to get out there 'till Sunday the 13th, unfortunately.

Sure would be good to see some fellow NCKA'ers.

I almost posted an "I'm there!" but then I (thankfully) realized that the 13th is my 1st anniversary.  Not a good way to earn WAF points... :smt009  Next time!
