Deep Six Rod

I was wondering what kind of rod some of you use for fishing Deep Six's? I have been using a pretty heavy rod and it handles the diver well but doesnt load up properly when I hook fish...

It depends which deep six you are using.  The heaviest double deep six #2, I use a seeker 270 or 670.  The double #2 has quite a bit of drag so you'd want to use a rod with plenty backbone but a light tip for when you hook up on a fish. 

Most times, I'm using the double deep six #1, which is a bit easier on the rod so I can get away with the 7' ML Trevala.  I have noticed that if the rod is too stiff, it may handle the trolling around part well, but not so much once you hook up like you mentioned.  If you are using non double deep version, you can probably get away with lighter rods.

I used a Baidarka and Ugly stick Medium Lite.

My okuma SST 8'6HM does the job and it was under a Benjamin in price.  I think 8'6 Fast action moderate tip is a good rod for it in general, with enough power.  I'd stick with graphite over glass.

I use a Lamiglas Classic Glass. Works like a charm.

I have not used this for trolling because I deem it to weak for the planer.  Can I use it?  Looks like I can with a #1

I agree. That rod probably isn't a good match for trolling with a DD6. It would probably make a good mooching rod, although most prefer a conventional/bait casting setup.

What reel would work well with that Lamiglass CG90DR for salmon trolling?

I use a strong ugly stick with fast action tip paired with a level wind star drag.  braided line to the double deep six (biggest one), then an in-line flasher, rubber snubber, and leader

FYI, Salmon charters will not allow spinning combos.

I use an Abu Garcia Record 6601. I really like this reel. The only thingI'd change would be to give it a little faster retrieve.

Thanks, that is a nice looking reel. Spendy though, especially the right handed version. I might have to start fishing lefty.
