I've seen those in the wild, they appear to behave like solid kayaks OTW. Might have to demo one someday.

I saw a couple using these in Norway. They used them almost exclusively in salt water. They said they loved them, especially for packing onto the Hurtigruten ferry/cruise ship we were on. The looked well made and were reported to be fairly stable.

In my humble opinion foldable kayaks despite, in some cases, excellent design and innovative manufacture are conversation pieces. Some have functionality and others none. If packability is required I would favor inflatable. Folding kayaks, and I haven't seen them all, fall somewhere between a Nash Metropolitan and Can-Am Spyder if you are lucky. So they're cool but not a jeep, or landcruiser, or Range Rover, Lamborghini Urus,or even a Suzuki Samurai to use a car analogy. Folding is a huge design requirement leaving craft lacking in those instances when a proper sit on top may be pushed towards its own limitations.

Thats what I sorta figured.  But it would be cool to be able to travel different countries and be able to kayak some exotic place that you wouldn't be able to do otherwise.

I'd favor an inflatable, too, if packability is important. There are some good/durable inflatables out there.

True, but there are some VERY durable ones available. Think about a white water inflatable kayak. They can rub against rocks all day without issues.

Hypalon is a strange and wonderful substance.  Was recently at gerle creek and saw a pair of Achilles single-person kayaks that looked both awesome and indestructible. Looked like they tracked decently too. Didn't know Achilles ever was in that line of work, but given their rafts' and dinghies' reputation, I think they'd be trustworthy.

I have yet to meet a kayak that wasn't foldable. Just a matter of getting them between the wrong current and the right rock.

You are correct, Alex, but I'm thinking they won't hold up so well against things like fish hooks, knives, and teeth.
