Anyone out there know of any good hikes within an hours drive of lake Almanor? My younger brothers bachelors party is in mid August and we plan on doing a hike on one of the theee days. Im considering a few trails in Lassen National Park including Bumpass Hell trail and Brokeoff mountain trail. Any other recommendations from those who know the area?

Destination hikes ideal ( to a swimming hole, waterfall, geologic feature etc...) any difficulty level, some challenge preferred.

Thanks

Lassen Peak is a winner.  Amazing views.  The others you mention are great as well.

But if you're looking for a swimming hole, Bumpass Hell is not it!

There are supposed to be some nice hikes out of Drakesbad, which is closer to Almanor.

Have fun.

Lakes loop including butte lake snag lake and cindercine in the caribou wilderness. Not challenging really but it is over 10 miles. Plenty of fishing. Lassen peak and broke off mountain for more challenging. I like both. Broke off is less crowded. Subway cave north of the park near old station is cool but not really a hike and the parking lot is right there, more a place to cool off. Burney falls north of the park has hiking and is really cool. Ishi Wildeness for very challenging, I only go there during hunting season and I drew tags this year so if you want to scout for me that would be cool.

Lake Eiler in Thousand Lakes wilderness. Bring mosquito repellent and a fishing rod.

Another vote for lakes loop in the Caribou wilderness.  It's about as challenging as you want it to be.  Not much in elevation gain, but plenty of miles of trails and many lakes to visit.  Definitely bring bug spray because the mosquitoes can be intense depending on the temperature!

Directions are pretty easy:
Take Mooney Rd off Hwy 36 (in Westwood)
Take the Silver Lake Rd
Head Right on M10 to the Caribou Lake trailhead
Vibe Sea Ghost 130
F&S Eagle Talon 120
Old Town Saranac 146 (aka the Tank)

I believe most of the trails in Lassen are still closed due to snow.  Bumpass and Lassen Peak being two of them.  I can confirm both of them are worth doing, but Broke Off is on my to do list and now Lakes loop sounds like it needs to be added.

Thanks everyone. Party is in mid August so I'll check with lassen parks dept to see if the trails will be open. My younger brother added devils kitchen and lassen peak to the list as well.
