I just bought a used 2015 Grand Caravan (turning it into a camper). It came with the factory roof rack. I plan on topping my kayak with the Malone wings and a Rhino Rack Bar loader.

I am reluctant to use the Factory roof racks, but can't just remove them.

Anyone have any advice?

What is the weight rating of the factory rack and what is the weight of the kayak(s) you are planning to carry? That's where I'd start.

I have a similar 13 caravan, the rack is much better than the earlier models. It should handle one yak without issue. I had a friend weld me up something that allows me to carry more weight and more gear (yaks). I'll try to post pics here in the next couple days.

Here is what I see from the owner's manual:

"ROOF LUGGAGE RACK — IF EQUIPPED
The crossbars on your vehicle are delivered stowed
within the roof rack side rails. If adding cargo, deploy the
crossbars. Distribute cargo weight evenly on the roof rack
crossbars, to maximum of 150 lbs (68 kg). The roof rack
does not increase the total load carrying capacity of the
vehicle. Be sure the total load of cargo inside the vehicle
plus that on the external rack does not exceed the
maximum vehicle load capacity.
The crossbars and side rails are designed to carry weight
on vehicles equipped with a luggage rack. The load must

Thanks guys. 150lbs is plenty of weight rating. When I asked the Dodge dealer they said he thought it was 75lbs.

I'll use the roof rack that came with it.
