place to rent in Vallejo (near Mare Island) ?

My son starts pharmacy school in August---the school is located in Vallejo on Mare Island, near the golf course. He's usually on the ball, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, he still has not found a place to live. So, I was wondering if anybody here has any suggestions, such as specific apartment complexes you'd recommend (or recommend avoiding), or even just general info, such as areas to avoid. Basically, any info that might narrow the search would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Avoid Mare Island.     Tuoro?  My cousin just graduated from there in spring
