Hello,

I'm in the process of purchasing a PA 14, but one my buddy said his brother is trying to sell his PA 14 which was built in 2010. His brother is willing to sell it to me for $1700. I've read a few issues with the older model and wondering if it is worth it or should I just look into a 2017 model? I would like to have the new mirage drive with the reverse capability and add whatever to make it track better. Just wondering with all the features I want in it, I might end up with a price tag close to a new PA 14.

Appreciate all the suggestions. Thank you!

I'm fairly well versed in the Pro Angler 14 platforms.  In my opinion that's too much money for a 2010 unless its in perfect condition with serious accessories.  I just sold a 2012 PA14 with a Hobie HD Scupper Cart, Humminbird 589ci HD DI fishfinder, rubber Hobie map pockets, and a few other odds and ends for $1600.  You can get a leftover model at dealerships in the spring for a fairly substantial discount if you're not in a hurry to buy.

Keep your eye on the for sale section here and also on Craigslist.  You should be able to pick up a 2016 model for somewhere in the neighborhood of $2500-$2700

Thats older older older Outback models, not PA's.  They dont have a drive-well cracking issue on them at all.  But still if it's that old, it should be in really really really good condition for that price.

Thanks for this. The guy is also including fish finder, paddle, tackle box he says, but based on what you're telling me, it's not even worth it. The yak looks fine in pics but no close up pics yet and who knows how old the fish finder is.

It comes with the paddle and tackle box, so they aren't extras.  :smt002  The FF is an extra, and if it's a really good model it could be worth 3-500$ bucks making it more worth while if it's a good unit.  Still a good cart would be nice to have since those things are beasts to haul around.

I don't think he has a cart. He didn't mention it but he says he'll send me more pics later. I'll ask him to send me pics around the scupper hole and where the drive sits. I just don't think I want to encounter these potential problems the older PA 14 may have. I don't feel it's worth it, but the guy says he only used it a few times. Still tempted and I really want to get out there and fish.

Topside is clean looking, although no closeups.  The bottom is where i'd be looking to make sure it was well taken care of.  Some people, even smart ones, have done things like dragging plastic kayaks down cement ramps to launch  :smt044

Thanks AlsHobieOutback. It does look clean, but how many years do you think is left in this kayak if it was well taken care of?  What would you consider a good offer?

$1000-$1200 would probably be more the range I'd be looking for.  I know of a 2010 that sold about a year ago for $800

If well taken care of, it will last a very long time.  Lots of guys have 10+ year old kayaks, my oldest is 8 at the moment.   The Hobies are pretty darn good plastic, and thick too.  All kayaks have scratches too, but look for deep gouges that might become an issue later.

Also compared to the price of a new PA12 at ~3200$ it's a decent deal.  But compared to other deals from this board, you could possibly do better, but have to wait and see if another deal comes up.

The one good thing about the older models, the seat material won't rip like the new models.but they are heavier for that reason.also there's no pod for your ff transducer on the old model.if you add gear tracks yourself, you can better customize it to your needs.since it's someone you know ask for another few bills off,id hit him up for 13-1400.my .02
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
