Cayucos

Does anybody know much about the Cayucos area?

Never been to this area but I am going to Cayucos because my wife is getting together with friends for her 50th on the weekend of April 28, 29.


Where in this vicinity should I look to do some kayak diving?  What is access like and other than rockfish what other game is there?

Any and all information would be very much appreciated.

I used to fish that area often as a kid. In fact, my first SOT fishing excursion was just north of the pier. The north side of the pier is a relatively easy surf launch if the swell is down, and then anywhere up the coast there are tons of rocks & structure to fish. Not sure about how the MPA's have affected the fishing spots though.
I love that whole place down there. Its a bit more "L.A-ified" now, and the restaurants are more expensive, but I have so many fond memories of summers spent there it still looks pretty much the same to me.

I will give you my buddy Korey Smeltzer's number.  He lives in Paso and knows that area well.  I have been there, but not for a while.  I think the MLPA's have changed things too.

Yep, north side of the pier is usually an easy launch. There's some great areas along the Cayucos bluffs which stretch to the west.

This is my pick for the area though, Ellysly/Villa Creek. Dirt parking lot off Hwy 1 center; very short Roleeze to beach. To the west of the beach there is an area called China Habor (below the abolone farm up on the cliffs), I've caught some very nice fish there.

Cayucos-

A great place- I work 2 blocks from the pier once a week.  I'd dive the various boilers and pinnacles just north of town. You can park by the eucalyptus grove and windmill about a mile north of town and have an easy roll to the water and access to several reefs and boilers.  I couldn't promise anything in regards to visability though.
