Hello to you all :smt006!
I have finally purchased a kayak :smt003 and I am glad to join this community of fellow yakers and fisherman. I purchased a Jackson kraken 13.5 kayak. I am still buying all of my safety necessities but I hope to see you guys in the water soon. Oh, I met "shadow" at HMB on a little yak test run, thanks for the invite to this forum.

Welcome aboard.

Not sure on paid classes but every so often NCKA members get together and practice self reduce at a cove or lake.

Some just toss the kayak in a pool and flip it over and then try to get back in it.  Either way it is good to know how you will feel when you fall in and know that you can get back in quick.

Generic post need to check any changes in class structure but helps to build confidence.

Invest in an intro course to kayaking.

If you want to use a sit-on-top kayak for coastal trips, this class is a great investment towards making your adventures safe and enjoyable This class combines the Intro to Kayaks and Surf Zone for a comprehesive and intensive fun day. Includes wetsuit, sit-on-top single kayak and all gear. Instructors are ACA trained. A minimum 2 people are required for the class, or available by private instruction.
http://www.montereybaykayaks.com/monterey-classes.html
You will also be able to demo their yaks in the process. I believe they offer an NCKA discount as well.

I strongly recommend a course of this type. Always remember safety first. You want to feel safe and comfortable in the water before you start fishing from a yak.

HMB Kayaks also provides classes but am not familiar with them.

Good luck and be safe

Will definitely look into these and especially if there isn't anything close to something similar closer to me. Thanks for the recommendation!!! "

Thanks DG, I will look out for a session from the community and will likely join to see the faces to these avatars and learn from the veterans.

Fairly new to forums so if I do something wrong or say anything wrong please call me out and explain.
Thanks again guys and gals!

Sorry was in a hurry and just cut and pasted from a previous post of mine so it wasn't written specifically in response to your post but close enough. That is why I said generic.

The class structure might have changed since the original post so you would need to confirm with Monterey Bay Kayaks.

You can check with Half Moon Bay kayaks as well but Monterey Bay Kayak isn't far from you either.
