I am looking at 2 kayaks on craigslist.  They are 2 year old cobra explorers.  I want to use them for fishing at clear lake and lake merced with my kids.  I need to know if I can rig them to be fishing boats.  I want to know if it can be done, or am I better off looking for a fish specific boat.  Thanks for the help.

I know an experience kayak fishing buddy who owned a Cobra Explorer he said it's way too easy to flip.... especially for newbies.  You might want to keep your eye out for the more stable like the Cobra Fish-N-Dive.

Thanks for your information ChuckE.  I will continue to search for a more stable boat.  Do you have any ideas about how to fabricate a rod holder if I find a boat without one.  I loved your article on crabbing.  It definitely piques my interest.

Agreed, there is essentially no secondary stability in that little yak.

this is a very easy way of adding a rod holder to a kayak...it's made by scotty.

FYI: the only problem with the mount above: you gotta make sure you have easy access inside the hull - to secure the bottom half of the rig.

If you don't have access, here's another alternative:

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I really don't get Mooch sometimes.. he pushes the gear well, but always seems forget to post the link on where to buy the gear from his sponser (kayakfishinggear.com).  I guess they're getting their money's worth from his 6000+ posts.

I was just giving Joel a hard time for fun too.  But if he doesn't want to commercialize the board he should drop his sponserships links and logos in his signature.  :)  I'd be happy to take those reponsibilities over for him.

I will aways support my sponsors (they have been very kind to me)......I just don't really want to sound like a "nag" and get EVERYONE to buy from Hook1 or Aquan Sports...I'd rather have folks here decide where they want to get their stuff.....my signature links are there for a reason - and that's to give them the option or alternative.

I guess Mike said it right -

But believe me, when I do seminars, my sponsors get their names mentioned many many times  :smt002

FYI: I also want to point out that my sponsors have been very good about supporting NCKA. Not just by donating prizes to our Tournaments but by also recommending our site to their customers.

Joel,

I'm actually thankful you haven't gone too "SoCal" in the way you handle your sponsership.  I just like giving you a hard time because you're pretty much the only NCKA member with sponsers (it looks like poster boy Danglin isn't too far behind though).  But I warn you, if you start putting little laminated "hook 1 crew" cards in your fishing report pictures I will give you no end of grief.
