Hit the cove today for a quick limit of 9s,but dam that's a far drive.but I'm noticing the same thing and I'm starting to get a little worried.barren floor, urchins everywhere and decent size abs are getting harder to find.and the ones you find have very little meat on them
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

I have been noticing this situation in many areas, too. I'm no biologist, but my observation has been that the starfish took such a big hit following that toxic bloom a while back that the urchins which seemed to be unaffected are now unchecked. They wipe out the kelp which is starving the abalone.

Don't freak out like fish and game biologists did.  Those observations are partially why the Abalone limit was cut this year.

Yes I still see some urchin areas.  But the good thing is I have been noticing the large sun starfish moving in and eating them.  Don't know where they came from but they are showing up so hopefully they destroy them little purple urchin.

I do think location specific issues are out there.  Venture out of the coves and you will find more Abalone.

Commercial guys and most recreational divers harvest the red ones to eat.  You are allowed 35 a day so take your 35 purples and do whatever you want with them.  I smash them up and burry them.  I hope they will end up making good fertilizer for the garden but haven't tried it yet.

Also my feet have been cramping up really bad,30-45 min into the dive.
Is this from the fin being too small or too stiff?
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Could be a fin fit issue. However just as likely a muscle fitness issue. In fins ur feet plantar flex and if ur notnused to that movement then u can get foot cramps of ur plantar flexor muscles. Try working out ur foot muscles by curling ur toes up hard and holding, repeat. Think Bruce Willis in Die Hard 1 lol. Alternate w lots of stretching in opposite direction by pulling ur toes back towards ur foots top surface

It also helps to stay hydrated and eat a banana or some yogurt before you dive (potassium). That will help alleviate the cramps.

Never had feet cramps but have had calf and hamstring cramps before.

+1 on water
I always have at least 5-6 bottles with me.

+1 Bananas the day before and morning of the dive.

I've been told by several experienced divers to avoid dairy products the day of diving so not to sure about the yogurt.

Like Tote and Antonio have said stay hydrated and add potassium to help with those issues.  If you are still having issues stretch and strengthen your legs.  It doesn't hurt to try different fins or foot pockets either.

You can have them.

I will keep killing them while drinking beer and eating scallops.
