Hi there!

My name is Caleb and I live in Roseville, CA. Most of my fishing is done at Folsom lake or on the American and Sacramento River. I am interested in getting into kayak fishing as the few times I've done it I had a blast. I wanted to join this forum because I am going on my first saltwater fishing trip next weekend to Timber Cove in Jenner and most of the research I did on how to fish the area came from this site. So thank you for everyone that contributes such great and helpful info - this newbie appreciates it!

Kind regards,

Caleb

welcome aboard Caleb!   :smt006  Most of the guys are either travelling to Shelter Cove or are already there, but most will encourage you to read and research about safety before attempting any ocean trip.  Make sure you have a PFD, VHF Marine Radio, wetsuit or drysuit, bilge pump, GPS and know how to use them all before heading out.  I can tell you from experience that water is cold even with a wetsuit on.  Also practice your self rescue techniques in a controlled environment before heading on the salt.

Safety first, Fish second!

Also Rider fishes Folsom Lake all the time, hit him up.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I actually won't be bringing my kayak on this trip - I don't want my first ocean fishing to be out on the water, and I don't have most of that safety gear yet, so I will just be fishing from shore. If anyone has advice on fishing from the rocks i'd appreciate that greatly!

Check out Lake Natoma. It's almost always calm water, and you may be able to launch free at the kayak/crew rowing center before entering the park. Throw out a crawdad trap while casting for bass and/or trout. Not too oddly, crawdad lures work for the bass in the coves and in the larger brown trout.
