Maui

With my Maui trip right around the corner, I've been doing lots of research figuring out where to go tips and trips and blah blah blah. I've talked to some people from other island and they recommend using spearguns 100cms or bigger, unfortunately, I don't have any guns big enough and not enough money to buy one. If anyone is willing to let me borrow a speargun that's 100cms or bigger it would be greatly appreciated. I will be staying in Kaanapali Maui.

Kris, enjoy your trip to Maui.  If you get the chance to dive Molokini Island, do it.  Best dive ever!  I think it's a marine reserve so you can probably only shot fish with a camera, but it's badass.

Heads up on diving off Kaanapali, it's a herbivore protected spot.

Also if you do go to a spot you can shoot parrots be aware Maui Island only has different rules then the rest of HI. 

It's tough diving out there too.  The fish are pretty wise to guns and tent to stay just far enough away. 

I shot some decent fish out there but theres a lot of dives where I'm not pulling the trigger or just shooting roi.

Here's a shot of a couple of decent alaihi (sabre squirralfish) that I crawled into caves to shoot. 

The roi are fun to shoot but be careful on eating them as they could be hot with ciguatera.  Its a shame too cause they look like such a tasty grouper.

If ur interested in a luau book NOW for Old Lahaina Luau. Then for regular chow best place is Aloha Mixed Plate right across from Ol Lahaina, and Star Noodle up the hill a little.  Black Rock right in Kaanapali is among the most prime spots for snorkeling or chix, u need not venture far.

Skip Mamas Fish House if ur on a budget. If u want to take road to Hana lv Early and avoid gridlock. Do Haleakala sunrise the very first morning ur there before u adjust from Pacific to Hawaii time

Makena landing is a favorite launch site. Maybe there is a local dive group you can hook up with. They go out between Makena Landing and Molokini.  They chum the water off power boats to draw the the fish in and then jump in. I saw some nice 30 -40# Ono speared that way

Oh man, I love that area! Molokini was super early in the morning before the big tour boats hit.
