Just got me new hook 5 and it's all installed. Anyone have a link on how to make a legit waterproof container with plugs for it? The last one was just hanging in a soft bag, but it continually gets wet and rusts out the connectors.

Also, the new unit won't power on. I just replaced all the cables and the battery reads full. Suggestions? Can the battery hold a charge yet still be bad?

Thanks, that's the kind of write up I was looking for.

Power issue is annoying. The unit is brand new, as is the power cable/connectors. The battery appears fine while charging so I don't know what could be wrong.

Anyone know if a faulty transducer cable could cause the unit to not power on?

I ended up scrubbing the heck out of my connectors to shiny and crimping gently, without crushing, keeping the circular shape, the female holes of the connectors with a wide pliers to create a better tighter contact.  No power issues anymore for me.

+1

Note that you can get better connectors that are waterproof. I had a problem that I thought was battery related but turned out to be bad connection so I'd check that first.

I did the same thing but used a solid sealed Tupperware , with industrial grade velcro to secure it... with the holes I just drilled used grommets and epoxy...I don't think there's any real true way of protecting the head units from water.... but my best guess would be gooping  the edges and seems..

I'm a sucker for ease. Thanks for the link. If I can find out the dimensions on that to fit my battery I'll just buy it.

Put a waterproof automotive connector on it solder the terminals use electrical tape to hold the wires on the battery (wrap it 5-6 times) then cover the conrctors with marine goop
... like so battery is already sealed.

A great solution for keeping your battery dry and safe. Avoid electrical shorts, damaged batteries and corrosion issues with this battery box made out of a completely waterproof Pelican case. A deck connector on the side of the box makes for an easy connection and easy installation into your existing wiring. Comes with Pelican box, pluck foam for battery protection, deck connector with plug, and 12 volt 10 amp battery which will power a fishfinder, bait tank and running lights for hours.

Whoops didn't see the expand description tab. That'll work, Thanks.

Got the new hook5 powered up. Glad it came with a bit of new wiring, the new wire I put in last month was already rusted and destroyed
