Heard reports a few Salmon were being caught at the Whistle Buoy at Bodega, wanted to yak it but with forecast of 20+ winds and 10' confused seas. Decided to go out with a friend in a PB pretty rough when we got outside the harbor and they wanted to go in without fishing. I talked them into seeing if it calmed down after the sun came up and it did just enough to fish put the gear in and hooked a good fish right away but it came off half way to boat, trolled for 4 hours for nothing else. We did see a number of fish caught all nice fish 18-25lbs 1 or two per boat. The fish were shallow 20-35' in 240' of water straight out from the Marine Lab. As soon as it calms down I want to hit it from the yak. It was good to get out on the salt but not the same as fishing from the yak.

Wow danglin those are some pretty nice pix of grey whale flukes.  Sounds like from the limited salmon reports that we are seeing some large fish early in the season.  This could bode well for the fishing season.  Last year very few fish returned to spawn when alot were expected.  It was suggested that the fish, due to poor ocean productivity had stayed out for another year rather than spawn.  So, that may be the case and would mean lots of good size fish this year.  I live just north of the marine lab in Bodega Bay.  I will keep you all posted when good ocean conditions and the bait hit the surface.

Hey Insiene,

Your a scientist right..???  Why are these whales hanging out there, it's my feeling they have been there a while because the tour boat went straight to that spot while we were leaving..????.....Danglin

That looks pretty rough...  It looked good early afternoon, but I have to come back to Davis again, so hopefully next week when I go back home.
