Hello, yes, newbie here. Had a great day on the water with Fuzzytom even though we didnt hook up any Salmon. I have to admit (shamefuly)after paddleing around 12 miles Saturday, I found myself on craigslist searching the power boat ads. But today the soreness is wearing off and im anxious to get out there again ASAP. After reading many reports of boaters being skunked as well, I dont feel so bad. Although after owning a power boat and catching many fish using a downrigger, I can see all the challenges we face as Kayaker's. I was not able to keep my line very deep using a deep six diver. I ended up losing about $25 worth of gear to a power boat that trolled 100 yards behind me, he was obviously fishing quite deep. It might not matter in some cases, I heard radio reports of fish being hooked right under the boat. But I am thinking about using a downrigger on my Kayak at some point. Hope to post a hook up next time around, cheers.....KIMO

Weather was choppy in the morning but turned out to be a gorgeous day in the end. It was definitely a day of fishing and not catching...never the less, it was nice just being out there. We all fished different areas and we all met straight out from the stacks before we all decided to turn in. The funniest moment was hearing Henry / Dolphin yelling out "There's life at moss!!!" as soon as Chris / Cpyak caught a starry flounder. We never saw the "balls of bait fish everywhere" and the "killer whales chasing the salmon" and the whales chasing down the krill".....it seems like all hype to me  :smt011 I guess that's how the tackle shops make their money....by making everyone believe that the salmon opener this year will be "a great one"  :smt011

Still, at the end of the day...we ended up eating fish we didn't catch at the Phil's Fish Market :smt002 Had a great time chatting with da guyz. But it was kind of sad that the only salmon I saw that day was laying on ice inside the Fish Market  :smt009

Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that the opening day will not be a reflection of the season to come  :BangHead:

I'd like to thank Carlos / Quiettime for letting me hang out at his camp site at Sunset State Beach on Friday night  :smt023 Carlos, you have a great family and your kids are super funny  :smt044 Hope you can make it to the Lake mendocino derby (Bendo at mendo or BAM3).

some pics to follow.....

I am kinda glad I didn't push myself this weekend after hearing all the poor reports, suffering from the worst allergy season ever. I made it out saturday evening to hang out with Carlos at sunset. Heard some awesome airport stories. Cooked up the last of the salmon fillets from the alaska trip on the BBQ and hung out. Sunday morning I met up with Mendohead and set him up with a yak and gear. I opted not to launch and get sea sick with such a slim chance of catching fish. Headed down to the beach south of moss and gained some GAF. I later headed down to monterey to have breakfast, again building GAF. I met up with Mendohead a little after 12:00 to pick up the kayak and headed home through heavy traffic. Mendohead was the only yaker out of moss that I saw sunday morning. I talked to way too many boats that had no fish.

Apparently...the majority of fish caught were off of Pt Pinos, south of Monterey. Not many fish caught near Moss. But there definitely were some nice salmon being caught. Average fish was about 12lbs with a few 36/38 pounders!
Here are the numbers from Saturday's hot spot. Starts at 36.39/121.59 and goes south from there along 300' contour to Carmel Bay.

You'll get em next time guys!
