I was wondering what you guys use for line for rock and ling fishing. I dont know if I should fish braid to a mono leader or do all mono and not worry about tying leaders

40# braid to 8-10ft mono/flouro leader, straight mono stretches to much, and when you get hung up in large swell, not good for a quick break off, cameron

I use 20-25lb Pline Original PF.   It's worked fine for me.  I don't like fishing braid to leaders so I just use straight copolymer line.  I've used Trilene Big Game as well with no issues other than lots of line memory after a short while of being on the spool.

Braid gives you more sensitivity in detecting a strike especially in deep water.  60lb braid with 20lb mono work for me.

I like braid with a topshot of floro or mono -- braid doesn't like the abrasion of the rocks hence the top shot and I hate the soft feeling of running straight mono, especially when trying to break off a snag.

Cheers,
Brad

This.  You can even run straight braid to a ball bearing swivel as long as you are comfortable breaking off 60 lb braid (not that hard in a hobie, kind of a pain in the ass in a paddle kayak but still not that hard).

Braid to a Tippet Ring, Tippet Ring to 25lb big game mono, then a 2 inch stainless steel leader at the jig for toothy fish.  https://www.amazon.com/Partridge-Oval-Tippet-Rings-OTR/dp/B01BI999O4

50lb braid to a Duo Snap. From there I use a crane swivel for connection to a 24-36" 30lb leader. At the end of the leader I use another Duo Snap for connection to jig heads and irons. I do it this way so I can just change out pre tied leaders and not worry about knots on the water unless absolutely necessary. If i get hung up on the bottom a little effort and the leader breaks and I just hook on another rig.

I use 40# braid to rolling barrel swivel and then 20#mono tied with uni-knots.

For bait: 30# FireLine to a barrel swivel.  Loop-to-loop connection between the monofilament leader and the swivel.

Or

For artificials: 30# FireLine connected to mono leader by an Alberto's knot and a barrel swivel with a coastlock to connect to the jig/whatever.

Tinker whatcha doing Easter Sunday morning?  I think I'll be rockfishing in your hood. Forecast looks good, at least early. Will probably be me and Danr for his first salt trip in that new outback of his.

30-40# braid to 20# mono/fluoro leader....personally I don't like using swivels if I have 10-20' of leader....

30# Power Pro. Connected to 30# blue label seaguar with a uni to uni knot. Like Sonny said the braid is a distinct advantage over straight mono in more ways than one. Sometimes it can be the difference between getting rocked by a large lingcod. When fishing swimbaits it also allows you to feel each bump while the jig is bouncing from rock to rock. The minimized line stretch then allows a quicker reaction to jump the jig to the next rock.
