Recently my Elite 4 w/ GPS got splashed a bit while launching and it was one month past the warranty, so they charged me $150 for a new Hook 4 w/ GPS ($250 on amazon). It only has a 180 day repair warranty since it was a discounted replacement. I am not pleased with the customer service, but my kayak is already rigged for a Lowrance FF so I am going to give it one more shot.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas to improve the waterproofing on Lowrance FFs. I think I will marine goop the circular gasket on the back and possibly add some goop under the two nuts that hold the cable plugs into the back of the FF. I plan on calling Lowrance first to see if doing any of this will void my warranty...

Has anyone done extra waterproofing to these? Any ideas?

Thanks

Elite 4 is pretty old yea? They're not really designed for kayaks and splashing to my knowledge. Just have to accept they have a limited life using them that way without a mod. Interested to see what you come up with. Lowrance was pretty good to me, my new hook 5 is on its way now after the same thing happening to my elite 5.

I gooped up rubber cap to seal up the unused connector port on the back of my unit.  For the card slot with the chintzy rubber gasket, I taped over it with aluminum tape which I periodically replace.  Dielectric grease on the transducer connector on occasion.  I'm mostly in salt so I usually hose down the unit before storage and have been using going strong with this set up for four years thus far.  knock on wood.

Silicone or goop the edges I assume would probably somewhat waterproof it.

It was about a year old. If hobie is going to sell kayaks lowrance ready, shouldn't the fish finders sold at the same time be kayak ready? Hehe

Yeah I'll probably wipe it with a wet paper towel from now on.
