Sometimes the fishing isn't that good and our time is valuable.  So would a better fishfinder help catch more fish?  There a bunch of 3d fishfinders that can give your Real time and/or 360 degree view of the water.  Not only are you looking at hundreds of feet of water around the boat, you can also see how the fish is reacting to your lure.  The price for these fishfinders have really come down and you can buy them for  around $1500.  I'd have to sell a kidney but ...  How well will it work for kayak that are rocking on the ocean?

Perfect for people who like playing with electronics more than fishing. On a kayak, your eyes should be looking at the water around you, not glued to the fishfinder. Surprise boat wakes and swells can put you in the drink if you fail to react in time. Kind of like people walking into shit because their eyes were fixated on their phones.

Seeing more fish doesn't mean they will bite.  Way overkill for kayak fishing.

Man, tough crowd  :smt004. I think it's great innovation. People are always hungry for technology advancement. Otherwise, why did we trade our old black and white fish finders for these newer chirp, SI, DI, blah blah blah units?

Get one too huge and you could find yourself watching the Giants game on it instead of why you're out there... :smt003

Saw this post and wondered where the 1st and 2d fishfinders were?

PS- never tried that particular technology.  But I use the FF ALL the time.  GPS as well.  I've had side scan and down scan for years but hardly ever use it.  Probly could be a "tool in my box" but in the ocean it's never presented  a compelling enough view to supplant the regular FF or Zooom view I commonly utilize.

Bushy,

For the side scan, some people were saying that you can look for baitball to the sides of your kayak so you know which way the salmon might be.  Or maybe see reef that the rockfish might be sitting around.

Not to belabor the point, but 3D may be useful for those who have trolling motors or sails on their kayak to see fish around the boat.  Too much tech may be a bad thing, but maybe that is what they said to the first person who put a fishfinder on their kayak.  If there are cutting edge kayakers out there, it would be NCKA.   :fishing2

Im just saying I hardly ever use DI and Side scan, not opposed to it. I wonder how this one is going to work:

I think that the SI will be awesome for salmon trolling.
